This was the second year in a row that Professor Paice was honoured by the BAPIO. At this year's ceremony she picked up one of three National Awards for Professional Excellence, in recognition of her work for postgraduate medical education. Professor Dame Carol Black and Professor Dinesh Bhugra were the other recipients. Lis said: "I was very honoured to be presented with this award. London Deanery has worked with BAPIO on a range of equalities issues and I hope this informal partnership will continue, to the benefit of both organisations."
Dr Hussain was presented with a Special Award for Dedication to BAPIO for his engagement in providing leadership in the development of the BAPIOs Young Doctors' Forum, which he chairs, and his commitment to supporting young doctors in their career progression.
Commenting on his award, Abrar said: “It’s such an honour to receive this award. In its first year, the Young Doctors' Forum of BAPIO has successfully established a national network and aims to organise training courses and events for all doctors in the UK. Members of the team have displayed exemplary passion, determination and leadership qualities.”
The BAPIO was set up to encourage its members to make use of their knowledge of culture and languages in promoting better health awareness amongst ethinic communities and to assist members in improving their career prospects. The organisation also monitors and highlights the difficulties faced by doctors coming from the Indian sub-continent and provides support to them.
