New SASG lead for Frontier - Continuing Professional Development for SASG Doctors

Naila Kamal

Naila Kamal has been appointed new lead for Frontier, the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programme by London Deanery for Staff Grades, Specialty Doctors and Associate Specialists (SASG). Naila is an associate specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology within the North West London cluster.

During the past three years, Frontier has been instrumental in the facilitation of training and sponsorship of educational resources for Staff Grades, Specialty Doctors and Associate Specialists (SASG). Naila has been involved as an advisor with Frontier, working alongside her predecessor Tony Rao. As a SASG, Naila said “I feel a sense of pride and great honour to be involved in this CPD programme, being a SASG doctor myself”.

Launch of new on-site educational study days

As part of the strategy for 2011, Frontier has contacted Directors of Medical Education (DMEs), Lead Providers (LPs) and some Local Education Providers (LEPs) with an offer to sponsor SASGs educational study days on site. The aim of this new study programme is to ensure that CPD sponsorship is of benefit to both individuals and organisations, helping them to achieve personal career fulfillment and deliver high quality healthcare to patients.

It is envisaged that holding such workshops locally, will encourage local stakeholders to participate in the facilitation of SASG/CPD in line with their Trust’s objectives.

Frontier is working closely with Julia Whiteman, Director for Appraisal, Revalidation and Performance to help support SASGs and prepare them for revalidation through participation in strengthened Medical Appraisal.

The London Deanery is one of the Medical Revalidation Pathfinder pilot sites involved in the coordinating, testing and piloting of the recently published Medical Appraisal Guidance, on behalf of the Revalidation Support Team. SASGs are included as a specific group in this pilot to ensure that their needs and issues can be highlighted. Read these FAQs for further information
