ACCS - Acute Medicine

Curriculum

Trainees in acute medicine are expected to acquire all Level 1 competencies in both of the curricula below. For the London Deanery, trainees should be able to demonstrate these competencies with a combination of assessment tools from the e-portfolio.

Workplace assessments

The first thing to note when starting ACCS is that there are far more WBAs to be done in acute medicine than in any other post and this therefore needs to be planned into your training.  During acute medical posts it is advisable to perform WBAs as part of the normal work routine e.g. after each take, and not to consider the WBA as a separate, add on, assessment process. The acute care assessment tool (ACAT) is used to demonstrate various clinical skills during an unselected medical take.

Portfolio

Acute medicine trainees need to become members of the Royal College and to use their e-portfolio for their WBAs

Exams

MRCP part 1 must be passed before entry to ST 3 is allowed.
