Who we are

There are about a thousand doctors in London training in psychiatry and its subspecialties, both at basic and advanced level. We aim to form a cohesive group, bringing trainees into the heart of the School’s organisational structure and academic life. We have the warm support of our Head of School.

What we do

We are organised into a committee to do our business. We meet regularly so that trainees’ concerns across subspecialties and regions are shared. The meetings allow us to coordinate representation to the School’s various Specialty Training Committees as well as its Board and Executive. In addition, we work as necessary with the BMA and Royal College of Psychiatrists (the committee co-opts representatives to these bodies if necessary). We hope to enhance the influence of trainees within the School structures as well as improving the flow of information from the School committees back to grass-root trainees.

In addition to representation, we provide a forum where trainees can share their experiences and develop their professional identity.

Representation

The committee brings together representatives on the regional STCs (for General Adult and Old Age Psychiatry) and pan-London STCs (for the Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, Forensic Psychiatry, Learning Disability Psychiatry and Psychotherapy). We have designated representatives for the School Board and School Executive. We also elect officers for specific roles, such as committee chair.
