International Medical Graduates
In the world of medicine Britain is recognised as a leading force in its training and educational capabilities. However, the sheer range of postgraduate courses - both clinical and research based - are sometimes bewildering for the International Medical Graduate. In the UK the term International Medical Graduates (IMGs) refers to overseas doctors and refugee doctors whose primary medical qualification is from a medical school outside the UK and EU. This term also includes UK citizens who have trained in medical schools outside the UK and EU, and overseas doctors who have trained in a UK medical school but do not have rights of residence. Doctors who have trained in EU medical schools and have worked in the EU countries are considered separately in the UK as they have rights similar to UK trained doctors. However, the IMG Office can provide information to these doctors. The London Deanery is one of the largest postgraduate training regions within the country. The London Deanery is also rightly proud of the high numbers of International Medical Graduates and EU doctors who choose to study here each year.
