NIHR Recruitment April - September 2011

Academic recruitment to 2011/12 awards

Academic training posts will be advertised on this page.  The table below shows current vacancies and provides a link to our online application process.

All applications can be accessed through our online portal.

All ACF awards advertised have a starting location in a London training unit. However, please note that future programme placements may rotate into Kent, Surrey and Sussex or Essex and Hertfordshire.

ACF programmes are for a standard duration of three years, but may vary depending on individual circumstance. Subject to satisfactory progression, clinical training may continue beyond the 3 years of ACF training, depending on the starting level / year of entry and individual circumstance.

For further information please contact Recruitmentenquiries@londondeanery.ac.uk

Types of Integrated Academic Training

IAT programmes aim to provide an explicit academic training pathway during specialist training that is designed to integrate the development of academic skills with each of the key stages of a clinician's career. They are facilitated by awards made through a competitive process, in strong host environments through educational partnerships between Universities, local NHS Trusts (including Primary Care Trusts) and Postgraduate Deaneries.

There are two academic training phases designed to fit explicitly within the run-through training grades, namely:

• Academic Clinical Fellowships (ACFs)
• Academic Clinical Lectureships (ACLs)

These phases are designed to provide a training continuum for those seeking to develop a career as a clinical academic in research and/or education, leading to the award of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT).

Further details about the different types of training available, eligibility requirements and entry/exit points can be obtained via NIHR Co-ordinating centre for research capacity development

Notification of Terms to Applicants

The Deanery is currently seeking advice on whether it is classified as an Employment Agency for the purposes of the Employment Agencies Act 1973 (“the Act”) and associated regulations. In the meantime, you are notified of the following terms and conditions that will apply to the provision of services by the Deanery in connection with the recruitment of junior doctors to training programmes.

1. The services provided include a work-finding service for which the act prohibits the Deanery from charging a fee.

2. The services provided by the Deanery will be provided without any charge to either junior doctors or the NHS employers that engage them.

3. If it is determined that the act applies to the Deanery, the Deanery will operate as an employment agency in providing the services.

4. The Deanery is authorised to act for NHS employers that are offering training posts as part of the junior doctor training programme and is not authorised to enter into contracts with junior doctors on behalf of those employers.

By proceeding with the application process you are deemed to accept these terms and conditions.
