Making your application

At the bottom of the page showing the vacancy details there will be a link to download the associated job description and person specification, and a link to start your online application. All applications should be submitted online unless otherwise stated on the advert. If you have a disability which makes it difficult for you to apply by this method please contact us to discuss alternatives appropriate to your needs.

The job description outlines the main purpose and duties of the job. The person specification provides information on the skills, knowledge, qualifications, experience, abilities and personal qualities that are required to perform effectively in the role. Please read both these documents very carefully. Your application form should demonstrate how you meet all of the requirements identified within the person specification supported by examples from your own experience e.g. from previous jobs or if appropriate from other life experiences such as academic, community etc.

Requirements fall into two categories: essential; and desirable.

  • Essential criteria are those that are critical for the performance of the job and every candidate invited for interview must be able to fulfil these.
  • Desirable criteria will enhance a candidate’s capacity to perform the duties identified in the job description. However, these are not essential as they could be acquired through further training, but may be used at shortlisting stage should we receive an extremely high response.

Applicants who do not address the criteria outlined in the person specification will not be short listed.

The application form itself is broken down into sections and you have the option to save your work and come back to it as many times as you like. The time you need to complete an application varies considerably, but we would suggest you allow yourself at least 30 minutes. Please note that each section has a restriction on the number of characters you can use, so you will need to be concise with your application. A word count is available to help you with this.

You also have the option to review any previous applications you have made.

It is very important that you take the opportunity to complete your form as fully as possible and in particular ensure you use the Selection Criteria section of the form to fully demonstrate how you meet the requirements identified in the person specification.

Please note that unless clearly stated in the job advert we are unable to consider a CV in support of your application. As referenced above the Selection Criteria section of your application should be used to demonstrate how you meet the requirements of the role for which you have applied through the use of relevant examples. It is not adequate to simply ‘copy and paste’ your CV into this section.

When completing your application, there are some details you must provide before you will be allowed to submit it. These mandatory fields are marked with a red star.

Once you have completed a section a blue tick will appear next to the section description to indicate that it is complete. Once all sections are complete two new options will appear on the screen. The first is the option to print a summary sheet showing the information you have submitted. The second is the ‘Submit Here' link allowing you to send your application form to us. Once your application has been submitted you will be unable to make any further amendments. We will issue an acknowledgement of receipt of your application which will be sent to your registered e-mail account. You will be able to check on its progress of your application by logging on to the system at any time.

If your completed application is not submitted 21 days after it has been started the system will assume that you have chosen not to apply and your application will be withdrawn. You will receive an automated reminder five days after starting your application and again at 10 days regarding our intention to withdraw it if it remains incomplete after 21 days. Note that once your application has been withdrawn you will no longer be able to access it.

The closing date for receipt of applications is normally a minimum of 10 working days from the date of advertising. However, please note that dependant on business requirements and/or response levels vacancies maybe advertised for a shorter duration and/or may close before their listed closing date. Therefore, if you intend to apply, you are advised not to delay submitting your completed application.

If you have a disability that makes applying on-line difficult then please contact us and alternative arrangements, according to your needs, will be discussed.

London Deanery is proud to be a ‘Two Ticks’ Employer. ‘Two Ticks’ is a recognition given by Jobcentre Plus to employers based in Great Britain who have agreed to take action to meet five commitments regarding the employment, retention, training and career development of current and/or potential employees.

As part of this commitment we guarantee an interview to any disabled person who has indicated that they would like to be interviewed under the Guaranteed Interview Scheme (GIS) on their application, provided they meet the minimum or essential criteria for that particular advertised job.

Unfortunately London Deanery does not have workstation facilities for you to use to make an online application. You can get internet access from a number of places; many cafés, libraries and job centres have computers that you can use. If you still have difficulty gaining access to the internet in order to complete an application please contact us.

The short-listing will normally occur within a few working days of the closing date. All applicants will receive notification on the outcome of their application, however, due to the amount of interest we generally receive we are unable to provide feedback on applications at the short-listing stage.
