Shortlisting and interview
Shortlisting decisions are based solely on the information provided in your application. Even if you were previously known to the London Deanery as a former employee you must ensure that you have provided sufficient evidence of how you meet the job criteria as we can not make any assumptions regarding your skills, experience, knowledge etc.
Note that the information included within your equal opportunities questionnaire is held confidentially and not made available to the short-listing or interview panel.
Candidates are scored based on the evidence they have provided in their application, demonstrating how they meet each of the criteria listed within the person specification. Applicants that do not meet all of the Essential criteria will not be invited to attend interview. Applicants that meet or exceed all of the Essential criteria will also be scored on the Desirable criteria for the role. The highest scoring candidates will be invited to attend an interview/assessment event.
Interviews
If you are invited to interview we will contact you, usually by phone, to inform you that you have been selected for interview and send a confirmation e-mail to your registered e-mail account.
In this email you will be provided with details about the interview including its format, panel composition and directions to London Deanery offices.
We aim to give candidates a minimum of five working days notice of their interview slot. Wherever possible we also include details of the proposed interview date(s) in the advert copy.
You will normally have the option to book yourself into your interview online. You will have a choice of available dates and times and we will give you all the information you need such as maps and directions.
If you are unable to attend please contact us as soon as possible and we will try to accommodate your request. Please note that we can not guarantee to re-schedule an interview slot as it is dependant on the diary commitments of the interview panel.
Unless otherwise specified in your invitation email/phone call, you should expect a formal competency-based interview with at least two representatives of the London Deanery sitting on the interview panel. Competency related questions that are designed to find out how well you fit the criteria detailed in the person specification and are based on the premise that examples of past behaviours are good indicators of future performance. The interview panel will be looking for you to demonstrate how you have shown competency in some, or all, of the areas identified on the person specification. Questions are likely to start with:
"Please give me an example when...", or "Please describe an occasion when…" etc.
The interviewers may also want to ask you questions about specific information you have provided in your application form or what prompted you to apply for the position.
In addition to interview you may be asked to take part in other assessments such as, a presentation or written exercise. We will let you know in advance if this is the case.
Assessments are designed to objectively assess a candidate’s ability in specific areas relating to the job e.g. numeracy, time management, accuracy, presentation skills. The assessments provide additional information in support of your performance at interview to help the selection panel to decide who to appoint.
If you have any particular requirements relating to a disability, or queries regarding the interview/assessment please contact us as soon as possible.
Unless otherwise indicated at your interview you should expect to hear from us in writing within two to three days if you have been unsuccessful. Your letter will include details of who to contact if you require feedback on your performance. Candidates should note that feedback may take up to 28 days.
Successful candidates will be contacted via phone in the first instance to be made a verbal offer, which we will follow up in writing. A date for you to start in your new role will be confirmed, but you will not be able to start until we have received two satisfactory references and you have received Occupational Health clearance.
Details regarding our pre-employment checks and contracts of employment will be discussed at this time.
