Fitness to Practise and Criminal Convictions

1.   Where can I find further information about whether or not I need to declare a criminal conviction?

You can download the guidance document on ‘Fitness to Practise and Criminal Convictions’ from the Eligibility Guidance page on this website.

2.  I have a parking ticket, do I need to inform the Deanery?

No. We don’t need to know about parking tickets.

3.   I have a speeding ticket; do I need to inform the Deanery?

Yes. Please email fitnesstopractise@londondeanery.ac.uk with full details of the offence.

4.    When do I need to tell you about my offence?

At the time of application, or before the application window closes, via email to fitnesstopractise@londondeanery.ac.uk

N.B. THIS INFORMATION MUST BE SENT TO THE DEANERY EACH TIME YOU APPLY FOR A POST

5.    I was given a caution at the age of 18, however it no longer appears on my CRB certificate. Do I still need to declare it?

Yes, applicants to training posts are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, and you can therefore be asked to disclose ‘spent’ convictions that you would otherwise not have to declare.

6.    To whom will this information be disclosed?

Minor offences, such as speeding tickets, simply need to be declared and the information will go no further.

For more serious offences, the information may be discussed with senior members of London Deanery or, in the case of National Recruitment, with any deanery you preference.

For further information you can call the confidential helpline on 0207 866 3105.
