National Plastic Surgery Recruitment
Plastic Surgery - National Selection into Specialty Training ST3
Plastic surgery is a varied specialty involving adults and children and encompassing a wide range of conditions in different parts of the body. Major research areas include wound healing and scar management. The specialty is known for the innovations and advances it has brought to the practice of surgery in general. This includes the use of microsurgical techniques, the understanding of the blood supply of the skin and soft tissues allowing the introduction of many types of flap used in clinical practice, and the introduction of tissue engineering methods in the development of skin substitutes.
Plastic Surgery is a run through specialty which offers six years training programme.
London Deanery has been co-ordinating ST3 Plastic Surgery national recruitment since 2008.
Wales and Scotland are participating in the same recruitment process.
The aim of national recruitment in specialty training is to ensure that the best applicants are appointed. The process is being continuously revised to explore the benefits and issues of nationally coordinated recruitment for 2011 and beyond.
