There have been a number of changes occurring in the South London Healthcare NHS Trust (SLHT) over the previous months, including the temporary closure of the Maternity service and the Accident and Emergency Department at Queen Mary’s Hospital Sidcup (with a move of other acute services from the site).

In order to help explain the implications of these changes for medical trainees, we have obtained a letter of comment from the SLHT Director of Medical Education. The letter is of specific interest to trainees in the following specialties:

• Emergency Medicine
• Acute Medicine
• Obstetrics
• Acute Surgery
• Trauma
• Emergency Anaesthetics
• Intensive Therapy Unit (ITU)
